Week 6 - User centred design by eyok

Human Perception
-Chunking
-Visual Variables
-Gestalt Principle of grouping

Graphic Design Guidelines
-Simplicity
-Contrast
-White Space
-Balance
-Alignment

What is simplicity?
-Designing for simplicity is a process of elimination.
-Simplicity forces you to have a good reason for everything, should be have a reson
-In film it's called FORESHADOWING.
-Simplicity is not simple.

Chunking
-The elements of perception + memory = chunks.
-Presentation of information is simplified by dividing it up.
-Bite size for easy storage.
-Forming chunks in working memory depends on how information is presented.
-which mean, take information, categorise in shape, colour or any group to help memorise
-easy to say, grouping them in a group

Contrast
-Contrast is to compare and communicate info
-to make the info stand out through comparison
-Contrast- different along a visual dimension (size or colour).
-Contrast is irregularities in design that
1. communicated information
2. Makes elements stand out.

Visual Variables
-Visual Variables are used for communication
-By encoding data + drawing distinctions between visual elements
-There are 2 ways that visual variables work on perception
1. Selectivity
2. Associativity

Selectivity
-Degree to which a single value can be selected from the entire visual field
-Using position, size, orientation, hue, value, texture.
-Most variables are selective.
-You can locate green objects at a glance, or tiny objects.
-Shape, however, is not selective in general.
-It's hard to pick out triangles amidst a sea of rectangles.

At last, I would like to share my favourite song of the month :)
enjoy ^^
